Erasmus+: More Environmentally Friendly Mobility
1. Using Low-Emission Modes of Transport
The Erasmus+ programme encourages participants to choose low‑emission means of transport such as train, bus, or carpooling.
Choosing greener transport entitles participants to:
- an additional financial top-up
Distance-Based Rules
- Under 500 km: eco-friendly transport is mandatory.
- Under 1,000 km: eco-friendly transport is recommended.
- Over 1,000 km: eco-friendly transport is encouraged whenever possible.
Students and staff must travel round trip from Belgium to their destination using a low-emission mode of transport.
They must provide proof of transport, such as train or bus tickets, or accommodation proof if an overnight stay is required.
Distance colour code (see partner map)
- 🟩 Green: under 500 km – eco-friendly transport required
- 🟨 Yellow: up to 1,000 km – eco-friendly transport recommended
- 🟧 Orange: over 1,000 km – alternative possible
2. Adopting Environmentally Friendly Behaviours
During mobility (and at HELMo)
HELMo encourages students and staff to:
- reduce paper printing and prioritise digital formats;
- consume locally produced food;
- use bicycles or walk for local transportation.
